Ode to Van Gogh

For my last lessons for my Enrichment Program students, we will be doing an Ode to Van Gogh.
He is one of my favorite artists. I couldn't believe it when I saw one of his originals at the DIA - I believe it was Irises (or maybe Sunflowers - I was blown away!) I kept asking my sister Mary if it was a copy because it 'couldn't be THE original'.
We are doing a replica of Starry Night, of course.

Art Classes Start Tomorrow

...and frankly, I'm petrified. I will be teaching 3 classes this semester. Two I've done for the past 2 years: Art of the Masters- an elementary art class and Watercolor for high schoolers. Those, I expect, will go well. The third and newest class is acrylic painting with middle schoolers. I will have 8 students, 2 more than I should have taken and we are the last class of the day. I sure hope they have fun and learn something in the process. Let the games begin (or the painting begin...). More later.

Print making

My middle school class has been creating different giraffe artwork for the past month. This week we made prints from 'stamps' that they made of cut foam pieces on cardboard and acrylic paint. All of the students wanted to do secondary prints -color on color. I think the results were great and they all enjoyed the process.

Commission Pineapple Painting

Working on a commission piece for a friend. This pineapple painting has been popular over the past few years. I love working with watercolor!First I lay down a base of yellow and then build up the colors from there. I bought quinacridone gold last year and have just now begun using it. It's beautiful. Anyway, here's my progress so far.
